A Mediterranean market as a symbol of exchanges and encounters between cultures and traditions, goods and languages. From this idea is born Festival Suq which became, from the first edition in 1999, an appointment awaited and of success in the summer of Genoa, with more than 50,000 visitors in ten days.
Festival Suq a Genova is a bazaar of people unique in Italy, where meet international personalities and citizens of different origins, languages and traditions, ethnic art and gastronomy, merchants and craftsmen. Theatrical and musical performances, debates and workshops for children, cooking and dance classes follow one after the other from 16 to 24, free entry, on the stage ain the center of the bazaar. All within walking distance from the sea in the Porto antico, in Piazza delle Feste designed by Renzo Piano.
In 2009, the Suq obtained the patronage of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri and in 2010 also the patronage of Minstero dell'Ambiente.
In 2007, the Suq was included in the exhibition catalog Squares in Europe, squares for Europe, edited by Dipartimento di Urbanistica of University of Venice, along with universities and study centers in France, Spain, Greece and Poland, as an example of cultural ideal square for the aggregation of new audience, with only 60 other places in Europe.
In 2006, is founded COMPAGNIA DEL SUQ which produces shows and events, and brings together artists of different origins, in combinations that vary according to occasion and which has carried out performances between narration, music and dance.
